Standard or Ultimate: which GTA VI version is worth it?

GTA VI comes in two editions, plus a pre-order bonus and a collector’s box without the game. Here is what each version includes, what it costs and who the extra money is worth it for. Details are as of November 4, 2026.

The versions at a glance

There are two editions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Both contain the same game with the same story. The Ultimate Edition adds extra content on top.

What the Ultimate Edition adds

For 20 euros more, according to Rockstar and early reports, you get this content:

  • Vehicles: a 1995 Grotti Cheetah, a Dinka Enduro motorcycle, a Crest kayak and an exclusive retro mod kit for Jason’s Vapid Ganado.
  • Weapons: a pair of Morgan revolvers, one for Jason and one for Lucia, with exclusive engravings.
  • Businesses: the Rideout Customs tuning shop and the One-Eyed Willie’s paint shop.
  • An extra commission: for the collector Wyman, you track down abandoned classic cars and restore them.
  • Exclusive outfits and tattoos for Jason and Lucia.

Exactly when this content unlocks in the game is not fully known yet. The manual will add it once it has been checked.

The pre-order bonus

Anyone who buys or pre-orders before November 20 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack with either edition. For boxed copies, this only applies while stocks last.

  • A two-tone 1955 Vapid Stanier with a garage near Ocean Beach.
  • Retro outfits and hairstyles for Jason and Lucia.
  • A tropical weapon finish in the style of the old Vice City.

Digital pre-orders also include one month of GTA+. The subscription mainly brings GTA Online benefits and a games library with older Rockstar titles such as GTA V. It changes nothing in GTA VI story mode. Afterwards it renews at full price unless you cancel it.

Digital or from a store

The boxed version contains no disc, just a download code. Either way, you download the game. Pre-loading is possible from November 12 for digital pre-orders and for the code in the box, and you can play from November 19.

A boxed copy is therefore mainly worth it if it is cheaper or you want to give it as a gift. It brings no advantage when playing.

The collector’s box

The Rockstar Store also sells the collector’s box The Goodtime State Vice City Collection. It contains merchandise, for example a Macca the Gator figure, sunglasses, a bag, a cap, pins and a poster. The game is not included, and quantities are limited. It adds nothing to story mode; it is for collectors.

Is the extra money worth it?

The story is the same in both editions. The extra money pays for extras, not an additional campaign. Whether that is worth it depends on how you play:

You mainly play the story

The Standard Edition is enough. Buy before November 20 and you still get the Vintage Vice City Pack.

You love cars, garages and side jobs

The Ultimate Edition fits. The Cheetah, the tuning shop, the paint shop and the classic car hunt are aimed exactly at that.

You want to save money

Compare retailer prices. Boxed and digital copies contain the same game, and you can usually buy an upgrade later if Rockstar offers one.

This is guidance, not a recommendation to buy. Check the current price and contents in the store before you buy.

How the manual helps

Once the game is out and the content has been checked, the manual will mark in the vehicles and weapons chapters what is only in the Ultimate Edition or the Vintage Vice City Pack. That way you can see at a glance whether a vehicle or business is in your version.
